Being the crafty person that I am, I couldn't very well put someone else in charge of what my invitations and decor are going to look like. So, back in early June I gathered a group of family and friends together to assemble my custom hand-made wedding invitations.
That's me in the top left corner. I was hunched over like that most of the day - OUCH!
As you can see, my invitations contain some of my favorite elements: glitter (that's my sister/Matron of Honor working the glitter station in the bottom left corner; ribbons (orange - surprise!); and beer (being heavily guarded by my friend Tanya who just looks like she isn't doing anything - she helped, really!).
We got all of the invitations completed that day (despite the consumption of beer during the process) and I'm still working on getting them all addressed and sent out later this month. I would post a photo of the completed invitation, but I'm waiting until they are sent. I don't want to spoil the surprise!
For the past couple of weeks I've been trying to figure out what to do with centerpieces at the reception. I've bought lots of silk flowers in fall colors and think I've come up with some nice ideas. Just trying to keep the costs down, naturally.
Here's a photo of some trial runs:
I'm planning on using different sizes of mason jars (super cheap!) filled with coffee beans and votive candles. That way you get the nice smell of coffee, and some ambiance from the candlelight. Then, I was thinking about using some silk peonies I found at Joann's and taking out the hard plastic centers, then glueing them around a rounded votive holder for additional candlelight. Then, I may or may not create some floral topiaries in terra cotta plants for the tables. We'll see how the budget goes.
I might split up the tables with half using candles, half using flowers to stretch my budget a bit as well. We'll see. I'll post updates as we get closer. Of course, I only have 11 weeks to go! Holy crap! I've got a lot to get done!!!!!!!!!!!
